This is, and will forever always be known to me as "Mom's Maple". It is a Japanese Maple that my mom planted here somewhere in the range of 20+ years ago. It came desperately close to destruction during the freak windstorm and tree downing in May of 2011. The giant pine fell just a few feet from "Mom's Maple" and broke quite a few large branches on one side of the tree. She leans towards the only sunlight she can receive because she is planted much too close to the house and back porch. She gets the brunt of any winds that push through our area. But that hasn't stopped her. Oh, no. Here she is strutting her stuff this November of 2011.

She is a survivor. Still growing and showing off all her beauty despite the odds against her. Reminds me of where I want to be in my own life right now. Ever growing ~ mentally, emotionally, spiritually... all with a bit of sass to strut my stuff with. :)
Do you get many birds in your Japanese maple? Up here in PA, the birds have avoided the J.M. The trees do have pretty foliage.
ReplyDeleteThose are wonderful pictures of your Japanese Maple, which is one of my favorite trees too. I lot of the Japanese maples in my area turn a fiery red color.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful coloring on your maple. I just came here from the comment you left on my blog about storing ornamental sweet potato vines. Hope I'm not too late in answering your question.
